Project management, like every industry, is changing. While COVID-19 caused rapid and drastic change, there were already trends the industry was taking that are important to note. Why? Because project management remains one of the most effective tools available to businesses. It is important to keep our services impactful. We, as project managers, have the skills to help all industries recover and change for the better. Read below to learn the three trends for improvement project management was already taking in our modern world to ensure you remained relevant and impactful:

Remote Collaboration
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1598377696688{margin-bottom: 2.5% !important;}”]
Even before COVID, as teams and clients became spread out, project management/managers were starting to collaborate more remotely. COVID-19 has propelled this forward exponentially. As Christina Woods pointed out, “The pandemic has pushed people….to use tools many have long resisted. And a funny thing happened. They got comfortable with them.” This comfortability factor is huge. Now, barriers like health and state or country boundaries do not need to be a barrier to success. Our team has seen this in action. One of our current clients is going through the part of a project that typically sees our entire team on site, hands on with all the client staff. Instead, we created an online environment for the work to happen. This has seen more collaboration, communication, and faster work than any in-person collaboration before it. There are many opportunities for remote collaboration, so capitalize on them now while people are open to using online tools.

Buy-In
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1598377739261{margin-bottom: 2.5% !important;}”]
Project management has always been highly effective at building buy-in on a solution or problem. Both from the top down, and the bottom up. However, not all project managers include this aspect in their planning. You can expect this to become as ingrained in core project management services as managing timelines and tasks. This is because company culture and engagement are major indicators of long-term success. Buy-in is an important tool in a good culture. QuantumMark has always ensured that any solution or project we manage has buy-in from all levels. It is important that the top leadership in a company understand and know why a project or solution is needed. It is just as important for management to think of the daily impact’s employees will feel. The synergy this creates allows for a more seamless and successful project. No wasted time, no wasted budgets. Instead, valuable, impactful changes that help companies succeed. And it all starts with the right buy-in from all stakeholders.

Holistic Focus
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1598377789604{margin-bottom: 2.5% !important;}”]
Holistic is a trending word, and some consider it overused. But we disagree, because while many people talk the holistic talk, few are walking the walk. At QuantumMark, we were founded because of the lack of true holistic planning within project management. Over the past 30 years, we have seen some companies start to adopt more of the holistic practices, but not enough for the post-COVID world. All project managers can expect to start taking a holistic focus on all projects, no matter the size. But what does that really mean? It means breaking down silos within a client’s company. It means taking a look at the entire environment, to ensure the given project and solution are the right one. Bottomline: the holistic focus in project management will ensure that all key problems are addressed, so that goals of the client are achieved.

There are core project management techniques that are not going anywhere. To be a dynamic, impactful project manager we must be adaptable. We need to understand how to translate old school, time consuming practices, to a more digital, client-centric one. The three trends above are some core actions that you can begin practicing now, but they are by no means the only ones. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, look at this time as an enormous opportunity to pave your own project management path, and find creative solutions to meet client’s needs.
