Project Manager

Worried that you might be wasting money on the outside help you’ve hired? Unsure how to tell who is the best investment? We have you covered. As we’ve discussed in other blogs, hiring a project manager is one of the best choices a company can make… but only if it is a good one. How can you tell? Read below for our 3 signs you’ve hired a good project manager to ensure you’re setting your team and company up for success:

1. They ask you hard questions

A tell-tale sign you have hired an excellent project manager is if you find they are asking you hard questions. This might mean the question make you uncomfortable, are about the company not just the project, and about your employees and team. The reason this shows you that have a good project manager is because it is their job to ask the tough questions you haven’t thought of or are not considering in relation to the project. Don’t be intimidated by these questions, but instead, look at them as opportunities for growth and business success.

2. They push you, and keep you accountable

Hand in hand with asking the hard questions is actually holding you accountable for answering them and pushing you to truly think about all aspects of what you want to accomplish. A good project manager will chalenge you and your team to think differently, get out of your comfort zone, all the while ensuring that throughout the process you feel supported. The reason? Nothing new ever came from staying in your current comfort zone. Be warned this might feel awkward at times, but I should. This means you’re on the path to success.

3. They want to train you each step of the way

The reason a good project manager can push you and make you and your team get out of your comfort zones is because they build trust with you. They want you to succeed just as much as you do and will therefore give you all the tools to do so. One of the best ways to ensure your project manager is doing all they should is if they train you along each step of the journey, so that your team has full knowledge and capacity to continue the work once the project manager’s time is over. Take advantage of this training – by doing so you build yours and your employees’ ROI and value.

While there are many other signs that the project manager you hired is an excellent one, if you find they are not doing the three above, sit down with them and have a conversation. Your project deserves business success, and doing the work up front to hire an exceptional project manager will help you on your way.
