As project managers, we know how important our services are to the overall success of clients. We also know that providing remote project management has many challenges. Especially when clients are not available. So much of what we all do use to be reliant on face-to-face interactions, but COVID-19 quickly made us all pivot. The question a lot of us still have is, how can we continue to be successful in providing remote project management? Not only for our clients, but for our business and employees? The good news – we have tips that can help! Read below to learn three things you can be doing to provide excellent remote project management:

Engage

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1612902616812{margin-bottom: 2.5% !important;}”]

Communication has always been key in project management. In a remote setting without face-to-face interaction? It’s importance and impact has skyrocketed. To provide successful remote project management, you have to engage frequently with your clients. As Moira Alexander says, we have to “engage continuously to ease anxiety around uncertainty.” As project managers, we have the unique ability to create a sense of normalcy for our clients. If you’re able to not only provide successful project management, and actually HELP your client think more clear and calm anxiety, you’re automatically setup for greater success. Why? Because you become an invaluable tool for them to use over and over again.

Utilize Technology

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1612902653692{margin-bottom: 2.5% !important;}”]

While a lot of us are feeling technology burnout, it is actually a great tool to help you in remote project management. If you use it correctly. And that’s a big “if”! What you need to do is be strategic and innovative in how you use technology. For instance, don’t just have a ton of meetings that are not needed. DO find ways to engage the client and create collaboration using a technology. For instance, we have a part of a project that usually requires an intensive week + onsite trip with the client for working sessions. With COVID, that wasn’t possible this year. So instead, we figured out a way to use SharePoint to create a collaborative experience to complete the work. The results? We were able to complete the work faster and with less rounds of revisions than ever before.

Consistency

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1612902683019{margin-bottom: 2.5% !important;}”]

Consistency was severely lacking in all of our lives this past year. Including our clients. This actually creates a huge opportunity for remote project management, because it is a need that has to be filled. And YOU can be the one who fills it. You can actually create consistency for your clients, through your work. From showing that your quality of work hasn’t changed, to simply illustrating that yes, a project can still move forward on time and on budget. These small wins are huge for the client, and for your team.
