As a women-owned business, we get to live every day being led by great female leadership. And we consider ourselves very lucky! Since 2021 proved how impactful female leadership can be, we know how much more of it we need. But, why do women make great leaders? How do they make such a positive impact on companies? We have a few key reasons explained below:
Don’t Fear Failure
Business fail – in both big and small ways. It is a part of ALL aspects of life. But the fear of failing can cause business and leadership to not improve, progress or change. Women, especially those in leadership roles, face failure often at a higher rate than males. Most importantly, they face it without fear. As Katherine Mar explains “The glass cliff, which is relative to the glass ceiling, is a phenomenon that is seen throughout the world: that women are more likely to be employed at an elevated position when a company is not faring well. Women embrace these roles (even with a greater risk of failure) and succeed not in failing but in successfully transforming the company they serve.”
Practice Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is continuing to become one of the most impactful and important business skills we can possess. It impacts all areas of a business, including longevity and disaster recovery. Women naturally practice and lead with emotional intelligence. This means leading from a place of “we,” ensuring that the path taken benefits the most people possible. Just look at New Zealand, and what they were able to accomplish with their COVID-19 response. This is a prime example of the immense value female leaders bring when they are able to showcase and use emotional intelligence as a guiding principle.
Strong Communication Skills
We all know how important good communication is to any business and any relationship. Without it, there is no real chance of long-term success. Women leaders tend to have extremely strong communication skills. This is yet another reason why women make fantastic leaders for any business. Just as with the two examples above, a female leader can provide a concrete example of how to communicate effectively to all employees. This hands-on learning inspires and helps increase the skillset of everyone at a business.
There are hundreds, even thousands of reasons why women make amazing, fantastic leaders. The three above are just a few that highlight an important fact: the benefits of a female leader are felt throughout an entire organization and company.
